Since 2015, Jono’s wife Steph has persistently requested a top-quality sparkling red. Coming in hard with Bart’s stunning 1919 Block surely nails the brief! This super-premium Sparkling Shiraz is a true labour of love (not to mention cost), blending a barrel each from the 2020 and 2021 Barossa Shiraz vintage. The bold and rich 2020 component spent an extra year resting in barrel for added complexity and integration, while the 2021 brings a more elegant, refined lift to the palate. The wine was crafted strictly to méthode traditionnelle, with secondary fermentation, extended ageing on lees, and meticulous hand-riddling from August 2022 right through to February 2026. We've kept the liqueur d'expédition minimal to let the wine's natural structure shine through, gently offsetting those fine tannins that present as beautifully velvet rather than grippy, while the creamy and fine beaded mousse of CO2 adds a subtle lift that can heighten the perceived tannin just enough to keep things structured and serious without overwhelming the refreshingly sessionable sparkle that invites you to pour another glass without hesitation. It's undeniably fun in its lively bubbles and joyous red to blue berry energy, yet as serious as sparkling red gets—rich, layered, herbaceous and unapologetically ambitious.
